BIKE FIT DEVON

Hello there and welcome to CORE Bike Fit.

My name is Jon and I am a Professional Independant Bike Fitter based near Exeter in Devon. When I created CORE Bike Fit I wanted to work with cyclists to Create their own unique Optimal Rider Experience based on their individual styling goals. This inspired me to call the business CORE Bike Fit. Those four words are at the heart of everything I do and apply to riders of all abilities and needs. Whether you are new to cycling and want to prevent injury or a pro looking for some extra watts I can help you Create your Optimal Rider Experience in my state of the art studio in Topsham. The studio is kitted out with a fully dynamic bike fitting jig, saddle pressure mapping, foot pressure mapping and video analysis.

My passion in life for cycling began at a young age and my journey though life has taught me I am mechanically minded and good at helping people to get the best from themselves. So in 2022 I put all those things together and set up CORE Bike Fit. Bringing all my passions together I haven’t looked back since. There is something special about working with a rider and seeing them smile from ear to ear when they leave the studio.

“I want to help as many people as I can enjoy riding their bicycles.”

" At CORE Bike fit I utilise a blend of cutting edge technology, rider interaction, my own experience to help you prevent injury, ride safer and help you unlock all your potential so you can successfully achieve all of your individual cycling goals. ”

JON - CORE Bike Fit Owner

Welcome to the studio

Why choose CORE Bike Fit?

1) My studio uses state of the art equipment to help us make informed decisions about your personal bike fit. Utilising video analysis, a Purely Custom Fit Jig, saddle pressure mapping and foot pressure mapping systems to fully understand your individual needs.

2) My family background is shoes. I would have been the 5th generation of master Shoe Repairers if I hadn’t fallen in love with bikes. There is no coincidence I focus on the interaction between your feet, shoes, cleats and pedals. To me this is the single most overlooked and misunderstood interaction with any bicycle #focusonyourfeet

3) As an independent fitter I am not tied to using any product or to sell things as traditional bike shop might. I don’t suggest anything I personally would not use myself and everything has been chosen by me based on my research and experience using it.

4) My personal approach is to treat you the rider as the most important element of the Bike Fit. Working with you to understand your own goals and issues we tailor your bike to fit you, not you fitting the bike.

5) Having struggled for years with tight shoulders and neck pain when riding, I know how it feels to not be comfortable on the bike. I used to just grit my teeth and bare it thinking it had to be this way. Fortunately now at CORE Bike Fit Devon I can help you remove discomfort from your cycling position.

6) I have been trained by THE BEST trainer in the UK. My approach is different to bike shops as I use a range of technology along with my experience and more importantly your feedback to prove what we have done has made a positive impact on how you feel as an individual. There are no averages and rules of thumb used at CORE Bike Fit. The technology we employ is used to help us understand what potential there is to unlock in your cycling.

When should I get a Bike Fit?

1) Are you cycling with discomfort or pain? Struggling with saddle sores, knee pain, lower back pain, shoulder pain, numb hands or excess fatigue in your legs? I can work with you to help remove issues and reduce future issues occurring.

2) If you are thinking of buying a new bike? Then now is the time to get a bike fit. FIT FIRST and buy later. Nobody wants to have the conversation that your bike is the wrong size and making sure you get the right one will make the whole experience much more pleasurable and not hurt the bank account.

3) Whether you're a passionate cyclist craving that extra edge or someone striving to elevate their biking prowess, a bike fit has the potential to be a game-changer. By meticulously refining your bike's position and alignment, a bike fit unlocks a multitude of benefits. It maximizes your power transfer, fine-tunes your aerodynamics, and amplifies your overall efficiency on the saddle. The result? Prepare yourself for enhanced performance, increased stamina, and a significant reduction in fatigue. Get ready to experience a whole new level of cycling excellence.

4) If you're transitioning between cycling styles or have new goals in mind (like longer rides or racing), a bike fit can help you adapt your bike setup. CORE Bike Fit Devon will ensure your bike fit supports your goals, maximising your potential in your chosen discipline

Booked in with Jon to get my TT bike comfortable. Went though all the aspects of what needed adjusting and why, and suggested a few changes and was able to let me try them out to see how it was. With a summer of events booked in with some full distance triathlons this will certainly give me a chance on surviving the long bike courses! Really recommend booking some time with Jon, as he is able to explain the benefits of changing even little things like clear position!! Thanks Jon!!

Jon is great. Explained everything clearly and was non judgmental as I am not an elite cyclist but just trying to do a bit more. He did his best within the limitations of my wrong sized second hand bike, but the result is I am so much more comfortable, happy and I will have no hesitation in coming back when I take the plunge in finding a new bike that actually fits me. Once Ive survived my 2 triathlons. Highly recommend. Thank you.

Great bike fitting service from start to finish. Jon is very professional and superb at explaining the issues and improvements best suited to get the best fit possible. The step-by-step process is so welcome (starting with the feet and working up) compared to more ad hoc fits I've had in the past. Can't recommend highly enough.

Great attention to detail and consideration from what I wanted to achieve from my bike fit. I didn’t realise how poor my bike was set up until I saw Jon for my bike fit. He explained the process in detail and answered all of my many questions. He was able to fit a new shorter stem for me there and then so I could ride my bike straight afterwards in the new position. The before and after videos was an eye opener to me. I felt guilty for not having a bike fit sooner. Jon has certainly created my optimal riding experience. 100% recommend.

Definitely can’t recommend these guys highly enough. Very professional & a great outfit.

Jon is very knowledgeable & knows his stuff.

Jon also took great care of my bike, and used high end tools, which was very important for me, due to the cost of my bike.

Bike felt great after my bike fit, I feel in a very good position now. John also set up my Cleats and provided some great inner soles which has made a huge difference to my cycling.

5 star service from a great business

I’ve wanted to have a bike fit done for several years but either never got around to it or couldn’t ever find someone who I thought I could trust to do a good job. Come across Core Bike Fit and booked up after being impressed with the site and Jon’s quick response and his professionalism, and turns out one of the best decisions I’ve made! The 3 hours flew by and went into some serious detail before getting my position spot on. Learnt things I never knew and the difference although in some areas very small was so noticeable. Can’t wait to get the changes made (narrower bars and shorter stem) and see how it affects my numbers! Would recommend to anyone, brilliant service and made the whole experience a relaxed enjoyable one! Thank you Jon!

He really has a keen eye for precision and provided an excellent professional service. I was lucky enough to win a competition that Jon put on at Dartmoor Classic sportive. I cannot recommend Jon enough. His knowledge and attention to detail is very thorough and professional I learnt so much from him. He made some suggestions which I went with. Since then I have ridden my bike and found my position so much more comfortable. I would recommend anybody that cycles to have a bike fit with Jon.

Bike Fit Frequently Asked Questions

Bike Fit Devon
  • Bike fit starts at £230 for a Road Bike. On top of this we always suggest foot correction and activation in the form of G8 2620 Performance insole. These retail at £93 and are an additionai cost on top of your fit. All cyclists need these to get the most from themselves and prevent injury and increase proprioceptive feedback. On top of this if you have a functional leg length imbalance you may require cleat shims which are charged in addition to your fit.

  • Generally a bike fit lasts between 2 to 3 hours. Sometimes we can get them done sooner but this depends on several factors during the fit.

  • The kit you wear when cycling (this must include lycra shorts and a close fitting base layer or summer road jersey)

Your current shoes (if you do not already have cycling shoes please wait until your bike fit, as we will assess your feet and guide you to the most suitable pair of cycling shoes).

Your bicycle you want to be fitted to

  • Yes as part of a full bike fit I complete a full assessment of your feet and we look at what support and wedging is required. We spend a large portion of time looking at feet

  • My bike fitting studio is based in Topsham near Exeter. Your professional Bike Fit is only a short drive from, Exmouth, Woodbury, Exeter, Paignton, Teignmouth, Torquay and Dartmoor.

  • Yes. We leave enough time at the end of the session to make minor adjustments to your bike, including saddle changes, stems and minor alterations to handlebars.

If your bike requires more work and parts that we do not stock and that need to be purchased I can book the bike in to have the work completed.

  • The main piece of equipment is a Purely Custom Bike Jig, This allows me to set your bikes geometry on the jig and make dynamic adjustments as you ride. It allows me to see your power output, cadence and fluidity along with being able to change crank length, saddle height, angle, handlebar reach and height. Added to this is our saddle pressure mapping system which helps understand pressure on the saddle and understand if changes we have made have worked. New for 2024 is our foot pressure analysis system. This we can add to your shoe to see what your foot is doing in your shoe as dou pedal. There is reason I say we #focusonyourfeet in your bike fit.
On top of all this we use video analysis software from four cameras so we can truly see the effects each area is having on your setup.
